Hello all,
I bought this rifle in a moment of madness as I knew I'd kick myself if I didn't! It had apparently been sitting in the dealer's stockroom for many years so is pretty much NOS.
However, I can't bring myself to shoot it as it really is a collector's item so I thought I'd offer it on here to someone who would really apreciate it.
This rifle is in fantastic condition and really does appear never to have been used. The box is in excellent condition and not faded at all. It comes with the original test card and the instructions (which have a few oil spots on them) and the original serial number label on the end of the polystyrene box. There is some light damage to the polystyrene lid where the bolt has pushed through at some point.
The rifle was covered in old oil when I bought it and this seems to have preserved it very well. There were some tiny specks of rust but most of these disapeared with a good rub down with an oily cloth. The rifle could do with thorough clean to remove all the old oil but already looks great with the quick clean I've given it. Bolt and inside of the receiver are coated in old oil and after some tentative cleaning with a cotton bud the brown is not rust but oil. There is a slight discolouring on the trigger which could be corrosion or just staining.
The spring feels very strong although I haven't cocked the rifle as I am not sure if you can de-cock these. The barrel is clean but well-oiled and I was concerned that if I shot it the dieseling would do some damage. I will put my .177 airgun boresnake through the barrel (when I can find the hacksaw to shorten the brass weight) and give it a thorough clean.
Hopefully my poor photographs will do this wonderful rifle some justice. If you need anymore lease let me know.
I'd like £280 for the HR81 and could bring it to Lea Valley on a Saturday, deliver it within 20 miles of Peterborough or Ely, or could send it TNT for £15.
Any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Damn missed it !!! That will teach me to go out deer stalking this morning.
I love these guns - so English!! superb materials and construction with a slight undercurrent of eccentric design.
Great Guns
Lakey
LOVE the box art
They don't make em like that any more.
Triumph of engineering over aesthetics, a particulalrly British characteristic. Nice early one as well. I ended up with two, a UK Sterling and one of the US Benjamin vesrions. Both are fun, the Benjamin a little more refined, but preserving the essential spirit of the rifle.
A good purchase for someone.
New spare stocks can still be found at the Helston gunsmiths shop!
