How do I go about owning a large cannon??

I have always wanted a large cannon that I could use at events such as races, weddings and funerals!

I have no clue as to what this involves but I hope that it is possible to realise this as I have wanted one of these for many years and I have a bit of spare money as I have just been made redundant

Thanks in advance for any help that maybe forthcoming..

So long has it's a smooth bore I believe all you need is a shotgun certificate.

Bore must be under 2" as well and 24" barrel to be held for use on a SGC
That said Section58(2) may apply for occassional use and would allow any bore size/barrel length assuming the canon was made prior to 1939 with no licensing requirements.

hi, i have a 3ft long cannon which weighs about 3 hundredweight with ships carriage.it is one of a pair cast from a moulding made by a good friend of mine ,it is cast iron with a 2inch bore, with a high pressure steel tube inserted at casting .great fun, huge plumes of black powder smoke and loaded with shot its destructive powder has to be seen to be believed .up to 2inch bore is classed as a shotgun exceed this and it becomes a section one firearm.security has to be arranged by with your FEO,normally if its chained up in your garage/shed they are happy..a friend used to have some antique cannon if you are interested pm me and i will find out if any are avaliable.cheers greasemonkey..

Thanks for your help so far fella's.

I don't want to fire anything out of them I would be happy with the sound, sight and smell of it.

Mind you thinking about it I would like to fire my ashes out of it when I finely kick the bucket!

The biggest problem facing this country today is not the terrorist. It's the politician.

    Hi Jim

I think my cannon buying days are over, the six pounders have absorbed all the spare space in the garage. Her indoors would have cause to moan because they aren't exactly easy to move around

OTOH if this recession dragged out something weighing a couple of hundredweight from the 17th century, I do have a small unit up on the industrial estate

    best
