at 85yds the residual energy at 85 yds is about that of an elderly asthmatic ant. nice to know its still grouping though.
Alright guys, was out today rabbiting, not much doing so my brother and i had a bit of long range practice to keep the shooting sharp.
On my MTC Viper the ten mil line halfway down the thick post corresponds to 85yds according to Chairgun, so we got prone 85yds from a sheet of plywood and had at it.
2" groups were pretty routine, my first 2 shots actually cloverleafed (major fluke!).
If i can manage this with .22 at 12ftlbs, what sort of groups can be achieved with FAC power at these ranges? I was astounded, i was expecting shotgun groups. Most of the misses were basically in the vertical plane too, maybe with weighed pellets things might be even better?
Scott.

really nice setup and camo mate!
that is the best looking mk3 i have ever seen where did you get it done.

FAC air as i have worked with in my 25 cal at 57ft/lbs can do some remarkable stuff. it has held MOA out to 122meters when the wind is blowing steadily from 0-3mph.
vertically it shouldn't string if the pellets are equal in weight and gun is constant. i would say the chances of keeping you groups tighter horizontally is better with fac at the levels im running it, less wind drift and more downrange energy. It's easier to spot a miss that with the 12ft/lbs. at 130m mine still has a good 27ft/lbs if i remember well.
if you look up in the same long range section you will find alot of my posts of groups between 100m-160meters including some videos.
this was done at 145meters - http://www.airgunbbs.com/forums/show...t=record+group
at 160 8shots went into 5inches
8 shots into 5 inches is pretty good at 145yds mate, what would you consider to be your 1" group range with that rifle?
Also at what range does the gun hold MOA accuracy to? 5" at 145 is roughly 3.5 MOA?
Scott.
Scott stop playing around and get down the HFT club
"Whoever said the pen is mightier than the sword obviously never encountered automatic weapons"
Haha, fair one. Just making sure i've got the minerals, if you fail to prepare then prepare to fail...
Scott, the one inch question realy depends on the wind, if its consistant or more or less so lets say if it does not fluctuate between +/- 2mph the gun can hold that to 90m fairly on a regular basis. My average groups out to 122m is about 2-3" occasionaly, 3/10 groups will be hovering around 1MOA.
past 130m the gun will be holding about 2-4 again depending on the fluctuation on the wind speed and direction or combination of both. the wind drift data i have is very accurate since its based on alot of shooting sessions.
past 140m the largest stringing i have is usually vertical rather than horizontal. the variation of 25ft/s over the number of shots can string groups vertically to about 5inches at 140-160m. i always suspect that the variance in weight of those pellets out of the tin is one of the problems. The gun is not regulated and i dont think they can come regulated at 57ft/lbs.
here are some of those exceptional groups.

170 yards (this was before i changed to metric data) notice the angle of drop!! its quite steep almost rainbow trajectory at that distance.

this was 160yards if i remember well. this was during the data gathering period from the 1st year i had it before i customised it and changed to metric scope hence all MOA data. the bottom group was shot first, then i dialled in some more to try to center the group on the aiming mark.

when im back home i will try more at 170yds shooting over a chrono with weighed pellets and in good conditions and we'll see what we can achieve
