I had only met him as me and Rich finished trying to work out what had gone wrong for us on the course at Dunfermline, and we walked up just as he was finishing his last shot to hold his 47 ex 50. He was modest, and we had to convince him that he stood in very good stead to hold the winning score across the day, having beaten Andy Calpin into 2nd place in the morning, on what was one of the toughest courses of the season to date.
