    Imports from US---HELP!!!

Hello, this is my first post.I live in the north east and have been a regular reader of the forum for quite some time.I recently began collecting air guns again after many years, and I would appreciate it if anyone could give me some help with a problem.
I'm in the US and have bought a Benjamin 317 pumpup.I've read the advice by Ed Bear 2 ( thread 6360) on importing to the UK,but unfortunately I don't know how to prove to the customs that this gun is sub 12 ft lb.The registration no is H250168.Can anyone tell me the date of manufacture, and is the age relevant?
    Cheers guys

Hi mate.......perhaps you could get it chrono'd at an american shop, and get someone to write a cert for you.....they seem really helpful over there ...especially if you explain our airgun laws, which universally seem to amaze them........give it a go, you never know!.......also perhaps find literature about the FPS of the weapon, this will give you the energy (well ballpark at least)

Once you know the muzzel velocity and the pellet weight you can work out the muzzell energy.

You will probably need a US export licence for it, to get that you will need a UK import licence even if it is not a over 12 ft lbs weapon. UK end is free but a bit complicated, US side is very expensive. There are in the US specialist shippers who will do the US end of the paperwork for you and arrange the carriage, pretty dear though.

    Try these 3 things

First, where are you in the US? If your in Virginia, I could assist.

Second, contact Crosman as they now handle the Benjamin line. Toll-free: 1-800-7-AIRGUN. They should know the UK importer(s) of your Benji and can provide you with their phone #. Maybe Crosman can repair your Benji and ship it back to you through your UK importer.

Third, you could just ship it back to yourself. Get documentation on the velocity and ft lbs. You will most likely need to pay VAT as everything going into the UK is VAT'ed.

Fourth, Here is a US forum dedicated to Crosman/Benjamin's. Maybe someone there can provide you with your documentation. http://www.network54.com/Forum/581291/

PM me if you need to.

    Original thread on my experience...

    http://www.airgunbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=391727

I declared a "firearm" at indy to the airline......they don't even consider "bb guns" as they call normal, older airguns to be firearms in this state..

    ...NOTE: state laws may vary...

......BUT.......I was boarding an international flight, and my advice from U.S. homeland security was just that it was fine to take it out of the states......it just had comply with regulations at the end destination.....ie. England, and that was my only responsibility......nothing was asked about import/export docs......It was treated as any other item of sporting goods......the only thing that I can see is that you may be charged VAT on the USA purchase price if it is over your tax free import allowance.........now £340

    http://www.taxfreetravel.com/UK%20du...e%20allowances

So......IMHO, and according to all I asked in the USA.........no different to bring back a snooker cue/tennis racquet etc. etc......As long as it is within UK power limits!

Hiya mate, Who says its sub 12 Fpe ? It uses the same size pump tube/arm etc as the Sheridan, & all the pump parts are interchangeable. ( Its not )
I have had a couple of these & still have an action for one, & spares,
    http://www.abairgun.com/forsal16.jpg ( The gun in question )

Like all Pumpers it can be pumped & pumped, I bought 2 of these ( Later models ) but basically the same new in the 1980.s
They arrived in the box & both had half a hammer spring in ( They were now 2 shot ) ?
    Mine -

If you really wanted to bring it back, as a sub 12 Fpe gun, Carry the stock & post the parts,
    Cheers, Ged.
