Ross you need to be a bit more specific in your question. Are you interested in shooting the Olymipic style 10m paper competitions, where you would need a single shot rifle or pistol with either apature sights (rifle) or open sights (pistol). Then there are several diferrent types of field target shooting, shooting at "Tin Chickens" (steel knock down targets). There is also LSR (lightweight sport rifle) which can be shot with either a .22LR or an air rifle usually at a distance of 20 yards. Both FT and LSR competetions would use a scope sighted rifle running at just under the leagal 12 fpe limit. The 10m events are usually shot with rifles running at aroung 5-6 fpe, but are shot indoors at a relativly short range, so high power is not needed, and would infact damage the target equipment.
As to clubs in the bristol area as I am not from that part of the world, I cannot help you with that. Although there is a very good mulit disipline club in Portishead, I do not have the contact details avilable, but try google.
