S200/hornet Owners!!!

hello all!
i have owned a .177 S200 but wanted to trade it in for something a bit beefier with more shots per charge without spending loads, looking at the single shot format.

how did you find the cocking mechanism on the hornet? not in comparison with other systems but how does it fare on its own merits?

i handled one in salisbury's greenfields but found the whole thing very unattractive with terrible chequering and even worse white markings all over it - this was the MS version. I have seen either ones with a light coloured stock with nice crisp chequering or a darker stained stock with nasty pressed chequering.

i heard that they brought out a MK. 2 version? is this with ammended aesthetics?

There isn't a Mk2 but the stock is very slightly reshaped around the grip on models with a safety compared to the earlier versions. Wood is a variable product and some will be better than others.

Oddly enough I've just moved from a Webley Raider .22, which has more shots per charge etc, to a S200....

I played with a hornet, did not like it much, preferred the S200 and even my old Raider.

Most people go for an AA S400/S410.

if you are staying with .177 and you get a carbine you aint going to get many more shots, mine just breaks the 50. nice to lose the power curve though.
squeezing the trigger only to find you have not cocked it is a pisser though

AA400/410
Much better feel and fit with less fidling and more function.
Go for a bolt action..

I made the mistake of getting a .22 version, but other than that it's a great gun ! ( "not that i tried any others", so this opinion dont count for S$&T ! ).

Nothing wrong with .22, but definately agree with the one of each idea.
Now to persuade the wife.......

ive had 2 hornets , sold the first because because i was working to much and didnt get time to go shooting , wish i had'nt , but ive got another one now ive also had a s400 which i sold to get the first hornet , both guns have nice stocks and nice chequering , and i like the loading of the hornet its easy and safe , you can load the gun without cocking it first , and the second version has a safety catch , and it can also be de-cocked if you dont want to take a shot , not many rifles can be de-cocked once there loaded and cocked ,
i also get around 50-60 good shots but have never really counted , but i fill up shoot about 10-15 on a practise range then do a hft shot which is 20 targets 2 shots at each , ( wish i could hit all the targets )
the air arms s400 is easier to use , but no safety at all ,the new ones have a saftey catch on the trigger , which you can get a s a retro fit , and its lighter , but when it gets into its sweet spot then its as accurate as any gun you can buy ,
basically its up to u , hope that helps

slightly of the original subject.
i heard the other day that there is a non carbine version of the hornet, which has a thumbhole stock, does anyone know if this is true or was it jibberish ?
( i like the idea of a thumbhole stock for my hornet ! )

There is and always has been a rifle version. I've had mine now for 15 months. Not heard of the T/H though
