From what I can remember they have always been about twice the price of normal primers.
My solution with these things is to always buy in bulk. I buy 10k of primers at a time.
Why are these so expensive. I pay £5 for a hundred but only 2.5 p for shotgun primers. The latter being much more costly to manufacture. I resent having to pay the price of a 22 rimfire round, just for a primer.

Before cartridge handguns were banned percussion caps were half the price they are now.
Dealers are obviously making up the money for lost sales on centrefire primers.
