    remington 700 SPS Tactical .223

    Hi guys,

Im new to the forum so thought id say hello and do a little review of my Remy.

She is a 700 SPS Tactical, standard 20" varmint barrel, threaded with a 1~9 twist. Mounted on top is a Bushnell Elite 6500 Tactical 4.5-30x50 Mildot scope with 2 piece leupold bases and QD Leupold high rings.
Its the standard Hogue stock and on the back of it is a Rifle Craft Stock Pouch, its not in the pics below but is in the YouTube Video. At front of the stock is a Harris Bipod with notched legs.
The moderator is a BR T8.
On its way back to me now is my bolt fitted with a tactical bolt knob and new extractor. The extractor needed changing as it was the problem that my bolt wouldnt close easy, it needed a bit more than normal force to close it fully, doing some research i found out that the extractor was the common problem with the .223 bolts not closing smoothly. The bolt knob got changed cos i didnt like the standard one as it wasnt all that comfy when racking. Pics of this will follow.
I reload my own ammo for this rifle both target rounds and hunting rounds.
The target rounds consists of Lapua match cases, CCI primers, 22.5 gn Viht N135 powder, Sierra MatchKing 69gn BTHP with the OAL at 2.260 ( ive not done testing with OAL yet) this round will shoot 1 hole 5 shot groups at 100m off the bipod unrested at the back. The furthest ive shot with this rifle is 500m shooting 10 shots in a 4" group.
The Hunting round consists of Lapua Match cases, CCI primers, 24.7 gn Viht N135 powder, Nosler 55gn BT Varmint with OAL at 2.260 ( again ive not done testing with the OAL yet) this round will shoot clover leaf 5 shot groups at 100m off the bipod unrested at the back.

    hey mick,

have you thought about the mag conversion for this remy?

Ive seen a conversion that has an internal mag so it still looks like it has the internal mag, looks the dogs nuts and im really thinkin of getting one.

    Ive got the same rifle

Glad you like it, I've got the same rifle and am amazed how accurate it is, I've put five bullets in a one inch group at 240 yards. I use factory loaded hornady 55 gr v max and can't fault them. I think your bolt looks very nice...

I've got one of these; ditched the hogue in favour of an HS precision full ally bedded stock, makes a difference. Also had the tactical bolt fitted.

The trigger is quite versatile and I've adjusted mine to just under 2lbs, safe and cleanly reliable. I use N140 behind a 69gn SMK loaded to 2.29" for range work scored a 50.9 at 300yds with it, and the 65gr Gameking for bugg's 'n stuff.

I've also had the bolt closing problem but assumed it was the brass so I FL sized it and it works fine...

    You can get a bottom metal and magazine for these as they are;
Talk to Gavin at Anglo Custom.

I just did a little test for bullet seating depth and got a consistant 2.300 with the 69 SMK and was gonna start loading at 2.290 and see how that goes for me.

I got a consistant 2.311 with the nosler 55gn BT but im unsure what depth to start these at.

    cheers
