Thumbs up DM80 .17 Remington moderator

    Hi guys
I have been out with my new DM80 .17 Remington dedicated moderator and I have to say I am so impressed!
Initial thoughts when I collected from my RFD was how light and good looking it was. I found it somewhere between the weight of my friends older DM80 and a HMR DM80. It was light to the point where I questioned whether it would moderate as well as the larger .20 cal DM80 I borrowed from my mate Rich (Richness). Upon first firing I realised then the lack of weight had no bearing on the sound moderation efficiency. It made the .17 Rem sound more like a HMR than a CF rifle. The mod sleeves back over the barrel by 5.5" and protrudes 4" in front of the muzzle which keeps the length of the rifle down and the balance point further back too. I struggled to tell there was a moderator on the gun which is impressive bearing in mind its a sporter weight rifle which are sensitive to muzzle weight IMO.
Here are dimensions for those interested:
    Overall length: 9.75"
    Width: 1.75"
    Muzzle protrusion: 4"
    Shrouded section: 5.75"
Here are some photos of the mod on the gun:

The moderator oozes quality, is very easy to strip. I would not hesitate buy another.....just need another rifle to put one on....

Any questions on pricing and availability contact Dave Mercer 'DM80' via PM - he is more than happy to help.

    Hope this review helped,
    Si

    Thumbs up DM80s v v impressive

Yep, as a fan of my DM80 on my 204, i was expecting the 17-specific one to be very good but OMG what a truly excellent piece of kit and for great money. It literally is hardly any louder than an HMR with a SAK on. Put it this way: I'm selling my HMR and getting a 17 Rem now to replace it, with one of these mods on.

It really is Dean - very neat. I was out hunting with it yesterday and walked 3 miles with the 17 Rem. Never did it feel muzzle heavy or noticable with balance. I moderated so well when shooting in woodland and into hillsides. Very impressive.
