Hi lads, a year ago I aquirred a sabre defence A2. I decided to try and make it into an early m16.
This is what it looked like to begin with

And thanks to a genius of a man recommended to me by a member of this forum it is now looking like a circa 1963 M16.
Not sure to get the metal a more "grey" , still deciding
Mods :
Early 602 Upper
3 prong flash hider
Early "glossy" or mottled furniture
Early sling
Vietnam Era "simmons" 20 round mags
Heavy barrel re profiled into the pencil barrel (yes I know it will overheat quicker and reduce accuracy!)
Sabre lower defenced around the mag release button area , metal machined off at the back and near the bolt catch area.
602 Lower style pins,Fire selector switch, bolt catch, mag release button.
Early Triangular cocking lever

Good Job!!!
I remeber when you set out to make this rifle as you wanted it. What you have achieved is no mean feat.
Well done.
Nice.
Who's the gun plumber?
Andy.
Nice work, great looking gun
thats a work of art.

That is bloody lovely mate, if some Ar builder decided to make these ready built I'm sure they would sell like hot cakes. , could get a .22 conversion kit for it for indoor fun as well
Do you have a penchant for the Doors and Mowtown music lol!?
Nice looking piece of kit you have there mate!
So... Where's the review of it then?
What kind of performance are you getting out of it?

Thanks lads. I have just put it into storage as I am moving home, so 1st shots will be a while yet im afraid.
She will come back a colt grey I think
I was at a sale recently where they this up for sale, for the lucky holder of masses of correct paperwork. Made around £950 I believe.
Nice to see one in general ownership. I hope it works well for you. All the questions on originality should be answerable in the retro section of AR15.com.
You might like one of these for your local range? They aren't bad, although not as well made as many of their other products. Decent ones come up at under £200 sometimes. Good fun for the price, particularly with what the current pot-metal versions come in at.

Here it is at 100 yards. Accurate (with the right shooter, not me !!)
