    2011 barpc summer sizzler scores

    Hi all

Many thanks to all those who supported our 2011 Summer Sizzler. It's always great to see old friends and new. Thanks also to the course builders who toiled under a blazing hot sun yesterday (typical) and Dave and Ali for the stats.

I think this was our 10th anniversary but my memorys getting bad, either from old age or handling too many pellets, most of them today which were promptly wasted hitting anything other than the damned kill zones

Considering the current climate and the Midland, numbers were good and it is sincerely apprecated when people make the effort to drive many miles to support a shoot such as this or indeed any competition. The Sizzler is, we believe unique and a real test of shooters ability to both remain calm and take a shot from a position which forces the competitor out of their comfort zone at a target which has been placed with thought and cunning by the course builders and yes we do grow those bloody twigs and branches especially. Originally concieved as an 80 shoot (2 X 40 shot courses), The "Mother of all Hunters" has sensibly been reduced to a 50 shot (as above, I'm getting older) where every target is carefully positioned between 8 and 45 yards...

"apart from those that aren't" to quote Gary Cooper when he wrote an article on the Sizzler for AGW a few years back.

The "occasional" barracking makes the challenge even harder, but adds to the relaxed atmosphere at Popham we hope prevails.

So thanks to our regular supporters from Meon, North Oxon, Jonathan and Marie from the "West Country" and Andy Yates from Lea Valley.

I'm sure the above though, will allow me a special thank you to our guests from a motley collection of the Sussex clubs who provided no less than 17 elite marksmen to take on "The rest of the World" in a head to head challenge.

This was a new element to the Sizzler and one which would be wonderful to repeat. I know that the Sussex guys would like us to visit them for a return challenge match in the near future and I for one don't think we should miss this opportunity to visit not only new grounds, but some of the nicest people in our sport!

So with the thanks done and dusted, there only remains one crucial and significant item to report.

    Melted Pellet Match Results...

Well Chaps and Chapesses, here are the scores courtesy of Mr Ward and I quote him:

Scores derived from total number of Sussex shooters (including two recoiling scores) as a sum of all 17 scores ex 1700.

This has been matched by the top 15 "Rest of the World" scores plus the two highest recoiling scores to even the division between recoiling and PCP.

To those who don't speak Hampshire that means the 17 Sussex scores all counted. We had 15 PCP and 2 recoiling, so the the rest of the world took their top 15 PCP scores and their top 2 recoiling.

I've cut and pasted from Bob's spreadsheet which is the only way you can do it on here. I've added a final column to the Sussex scores to show how each team member's score compared against the same position in the rest of the world team.

You will notice that Sussex came a very creditable second(what is the equivalent of the ashes of Sussex Shooting - perhaps we should call this the Melted Pellet Match)

We look forward to a rematch on home ground...

Hello Shrek (Hope your offer still stands Sammie although I do enjoy a nice real ale

We were hoping the Midland might weaken and rearrange the show for August or October

I won't rub it in by saying it was the best sizzler we've hosted, but it was up there in the top 3. Weather was a bit damp at the end but the company far from it.

We will try and find another date next year but we are tied by the shot gunners having the grounds alternate Sundays.

How did it go at the show, good turnout?

    And so will we!

Thanks for posting the results, I'm hoping to get the original spreadsheet up on our website to make it easier to read and I'll post a link as soon as we can.

I have to say that I held my breath when I hit the calculate button on the spread sheet for the "rest of the World" scores.

With the scores so close, Sussex definately didn't lose and the credible second is an apt analogy.

So well done to all concerned.

Will try and get a few piccies up if Dave can dry his camera out.

    Regards

Listen mush, with a score like mine yesterday, I'm your secret weapon

I've added a link on the first post to our website which has got the results posted a bit clearer than can be done on here.

Piccies as soon as Dave emails them to me.

...great day Bleddy hard course, could hardly see half of them pesky targets...let alone hit 'em!!

It was definately a great day, back to basics shooting...

Thumbs up Great Day out Bob

Thanks for a great day out Bob. Thats how HFT should be, sensible sized targets with crap in the way to make it interesting. Long may you keep them going.

I'll chase Dave who took them. He's under a lot of pressure at work at the moment but I'll remind him in the morning.
