I don't know - but the actual finish that's on the pistol is really well bonded, possibly rivalling even the quality of Umarex IMHO, certainly several orders of magnitude above that usually found on these type of cheap bb guns.

Usually aluminium can be anodised, steel can be blued/parkerised/plated and everything else gets paint.

I would say unless you were hell bent on polishing (and once you start you cant stop!) then the stock finish is best left - if i could have reversed my decision after trying to chemically strip it I would have

the only prob with the original finish is if you scratch it,
    wouldn't be easy to re-touch
also , looks to me like you got a good excuse to buy a second one now

Trust me scratching it is difficult!

Heh heh heh 2nd example is already in the bag - hence the experimentation

    Next one will be nitromorsed...

What a strange name, Tanfoglio Witness. Is there a story behind that?

It would have to involve alcohol. How the hell else could a company known more for CZ75 based pistols than for it's two 1911 type pistols end up with it's name plastered on the slide in such an unsubtle way?

Oh, and here's it's fullbore namesake.

    ok , after a ton of trial and error(eer 2,000 round now ) , this gun is a replica of a real 1911 , doh ,
well anyway if you treat it as a real one, it just works better , so instead of 18 rounds in the mag , try 8 , or as i found 10, that way the gas warms up between use , and works perfectly with no drop off in blowback .
i get 6 mags at 10 rounds so a bit better than the original , but it works perfect this way ,
i know there is a little gas left after this , but its just not worth the risk of a jam ,
lemmie know what you get .
ps , also dont put a mag in unless the slide is locked back ..

I have a 1994 Tanfoglio "catalog " which includes their 1911 clones and even a single action .22 Peacemaker revolver.
Their name is plastered on most of the slides and if I could have one I wouldnt mind at all.

A logical tip, would never have occurred to me!

Is that when some of the gas starts to escape? I thought it was just an issue with mine, another good tip!

Thanks Cliff. Now we really need those spare clips!

It seems the scuttlebut indicating that the rear sight can be replaced with a Real Steel alternative is entirely correct, a little fettle with a file and in popped my spare Millett target rear sight

The foresight isn't as easy but the slide wall is nice & thick,

For the love of God Nick stop now while I still have a chance of resisting!!!

I feel an order for another micro red dot sight base coming on.

    ...and a thumb guard.

    ...and a mag release.

    ...and some wrap arounds.

    Off to McAvoy's, BRB

It does show some significant differences between it and the CO2 version - Straight backstrap, beavertail safety, commander type hammer... (not mentioning the mile high - some exaggeration there! - lettering down the CO2's slide)
