The aluminium cocking lever on my Pro-Sport has been "stained" by the use of some product or other and the usual gun cleaners don't seem to work on aluminium. Also, I have an Anschutz butt-hook I'd like to "revive" to its former glory. What product/substance cleans aluminium anyway? Can anybody help please? Regards ... Geek

hi ive cleaned aluminium wit silvo , its not as harsh as autosol and it leave a excellent shine
Thanks, sounds believable. But, Silvo? Is that the stuff you immerse cutlery in, or do you just put it on with a cloth and then buff up with a clean cloth? Regards ... Geek

A million motorbike owners swear by Solvol's famous Autosol mildly-abrasive-toothpaste-for aliminium. It is tops for getting a mirror-finish on anything, but to keep the oxidisation away you will have to varnish or anodise afterwards. Don't be scared of it, it's not crack cocaine or anything.
Duraglit can be used too if you are nervous of Autosol, it is less abrasive and more chemically.
if its not to bad try car polish the normal wax type or any cutting polish t-cut or g3 is the best

SHUT UP LEGS!!!!
I use wadpol - a polishing compound similar to duraglit for polishing aircraft aluminium. Nice and shiny!!!!!

Yeah! This is great guys, thanks a lot. The Duraglit lookalike/soundalike stuff may be my first attempt, then ... if necessary ... try one of the interesting alternatives. Regards ... Geek

if you want a proper finish take it to your local "anodisers" who will acid dip it and finish in any colour you like. if you want a deep matt finish have it bead blasted before colouring
(as per fwbp70).
if you want a sexy deep gloss then they will have to polish it first.

You may find that the aluminium isnt stained, its the varnish coating on it that is stained. In which case the metal cleaners wont work but the T cut Will!
I regularly polish Aluminium using fine wet and dry and then buffing with metal polish on a wheel.
Serious bling....problem is when its that shiny ...even a gust of wind leaves tiny marks in it
Just a tad too extreme for my taste, but I didn't know of this treatment so thanks for the info. Regards ... GeekOriginally Posted by simonk
