    1911 GoldCup indexing problem

Many years ago (when "propper guns" were taken away I picked up a S&W Power port & CO2 1911 Gold Cup. All was well but I couldn't get on with the grip-safety on the GC. So I opened the gun up to pin the grip safety down.
It's been many years since I picked the gun up but as I recall on re-assembly the gun wont index the magazine accurately in single action mode. It operates fine in double action though.

At the time I read it was a common issue if they were opened up and easily fixed but... no one was able to tell me what that fix was. Can anyone help in this matter?
    Also, whilst I'm on...

Where's the best sourse of CO2 capsuals
Does someone still supply the pump-up air caps. for these and are they any good?

    Thanks,

    Rod

The usual fix for indexing errors is to replace the indexing pawl and locking hand.
Use the3 best priced CO2 you can get with a drop of Pellgunoil or CO2 Gun Oil on the tip of every third capsule.
Use CO22, the air capsules were low capacity and variable output,

thanks for taking the time to reply.

I'm not sure whether any componant replacement is nessecary?

Before I stuck the grip-safety down all worked well - and still does when in double action, which is the bit I can't get my head around.

In single-action mode it indexes the first shot off the hammer but then goes out by approx, 1/4 of a pellet - all very frustrating.

"Use CO22, the air capsules were low capacity and variable output, " - I don't get you meaning here? I can find no reference to CO22. Were you commenting along the lines of... Use CO2 capsules, the rechargable air-capsules are pants?

Where/ who is the best place for getting CO2 caps?

I think that is just an inadvertent 2.
Unless Nick has invented a new gas.

The air capsule was a good idea but you need an adapter and a big air bottle.
Which does not make it a cheap option.
Brocock made them -dont know if they still do.

I get my co2 from JSR as they sponsor this site and are very reliable.

I recently tried to sort a friends Gold Cup with exactly this problem and failed.
He is hoping to get it to Nick Magic on a trip upt North.

Once again thanks for taking the time to reply.

JSR - sounds good to me.

As for a fix... IF I remember correctly Edgar Brothers (going back 6 years here) knew what to do.

I may start having a play to see if I can sort it .s I'm startng to renew my shooting interests? Then again the gun shoots fine in double action mode and that's where PP is at with airguns so might leave well-alone.

If anyone is abl to shed some light though please don't hessite to add the info.

    Tah,

    Rod

If it was mine I would send it to Magicniner to sort it.
It wont get any better and a Gold Cup that he has sorted would be very desirable if you wanted to sell.
    Whereas a broken one isnt!

    Thanks for the offer Nick.

I'll most likely take you up on your offer in the future. I'll familiarise myself with its workings again first though... OK I'll open it back up and gawp in cluelessness

I bought one of those Brocock air capsules, they have a fitting that allows them to be pumped up by a pump or a divers' bottle. The thing is, you only get about 20 shots and then you have to pump it up again. I now buy a bulk load of Co2 from JS Ramsbottom as well it works out cheaper in the long run, than buying the co2 in small batches, and as Nick said, a drop of oil on the tip of the capsule every now and again keeps it all nicely lubricated. I also put a few drops of oil into the tin of pellets and turn them around to distribute it over them as well, though with my .22 rifles I wash and dry them and then spray with beeswax furniture polish.
It's not the destination; but the journey that counts!
