    newbie advice please

Hi relatively new to airguns ,but not shooting as I have had shotguns since the age of 7.Just got introduced to airguns through a club ,so would now appreciate some advice .Am going to get a gun for shooting hft used an hw 97 I believe it was ,like this is there anything else that compares for say around £400 budget but that would need to include a scope .My local dealer says he will let me know when secondhand guns come in ,so that will be quite handy.

albi when you have a few more posts you can view the sales section. But some member will let you know more about it later i think. But if you purchase from a RFD or gunshop, as you know it, you will be able to try out the guns that show up from time to time . They do have packages ie scope and gun bag and a tin of pellets most of thes are for new guns .Get yourself a Air Gun magazine and you can chose in there for the type of gun you may like .Also some ,not many will deliver to your home .I would ,if it was me pick a .177 it is better to get used to for shooting because it as a flatter trejectory .

    Hi Albi,

Welcome to the forum and the wonderful world of airguns. Careful, they're addictive!!

Try and get along to a well stocked shop where at the very least you can try some for size, weight, balance etc. many shops will have the facility for you to try before you buy, these days.

Better still, if you can get to the club.....Airgun shooters are a friendly bunch and most will be more than happy to dispense advice on kit and technique and also to let you have a go with their pride and joy.

I'd try as many as you can from this list and see how you feel about them all once you've handled / shot them for yourself........

    Weihrauch HW77, 97 and 98.
    Air Arms TX200.
    Walther LGV.
As regards price, you can easily get a good feel for prices over the 'net. If your local shop is a nice, friendly dealer, but just a little high on price, of you explained that you've done your research but you really want to buy the gun, accessories etc there and develop a long term retail relationship, buying pellets regularly etc...he should look after you....I would ALWAYS support my local shop, as long as he's not an arse!!!
THE BOINGER BASH AT QUIGLEY HOLLOW. MAKING GREAT MEMORIES SINCE 15th JUNE, 2013.
    NEXT EVENT :- May 17/18, 2025.........BOING!!

my local shop is very good, been there for shotguns for years he's quite a distance from me, but does not really specialise in airguns though.

Hi was passing through a town called e dereham today had a look in their gunshop but a new hw97 is £419 for the gun alone that's without scope or anything .So it looks like my £400 budget is not going to get me much ,damn and blast!!never realised an airgun would be so expensive, guess I will just have to ask for cash from relatives at xmas to help out .

Dont buy from Chruchills you muppet! Quite possibly the most expensive gun shop in the area, with a nasty attitude too!

You want a word with Michael Tawn at Tydd Gote,

    http://www.tawnadoairguns.com/

Or get over to Philip Webster Gunsmith at Great Ellingham,

That price is way off too, Redbeck in Wakefield and Blackpool Air Rifles are both doing the 97 at £357, Youngmans at Great Yarmouth are doing it for £379 and they are in Great Yarmouth, Pownalls are doing them for £399 (in Great Yarmouth too). Could be worth having a word with Walkers in Wisbech and seeing what he can do you one for too!
