My mate has one of those old Meteors in nice nick for sale. That plating looks very poor quality, have you tried gun blue on it to see if it changes colour ?

Hi all
Just got back from buying a BSA Standard and a Nickel plated very early Mk1 Meteor!! (s/n N268)..
At first I thought someone had rubbed the Meteor down but when I started to polish it, I noticed it was plated!!!
It has the steel cylinder end cap which I believe was only used for the first year ('59/60) before being changed to plastic, serial number is .177 (Obvious with the N prefix!!)
I need to source a rearsight too though I think I may have a small scope that will fit those wide rails!!
The next one is a BSA Standard, Can't say the dates as I can't find my Hillers guiide!! But it's patinated brown, cocks OK but as yet i've not fired either!!
The Standard has a non standard trigger guard so Fleabay will be trawled!! , Also the pivot bolt for the cocking link has been changed to a screw and nut so I presume it was lost or broken, Not sure exactly but it's doing the job and I reckon as it has the same coloured patination, it was probably done years ago!!
Also, The top of the Barleycorn forsight is snapped off so I presume it will be shooting high!!
Serial number of the Standard is S15248..

BE AN INDEPENDENT THINKER, DON'T FOLLOW THE CROWD
Hi Baz
I've not tried anything with it yet apart from test firing it in the back yard!!
I think it's had a hard life what with the worn finish
Must say, It's pokey little bu**er!! I shot at the patio slabs at point blank range with my boot sole to stop ricochet and the Daystate pellets are shattering so I shot at the back wall from around four feet away and the pellet still shattered but left a bit of the skirt attached!!
The old Standard just flattened the pellet somewhat
I took a pic of the pellet damage but have to load it to photobucket yet!! (Really ought to get the new display panel soldered in to my Chrony!! )
Cheers John

My two MK1 meteors run at about 9 ft lb and are pretty sweet at that power.
Have fun with your new toys John

Opportunity is missed by most people, because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.
Hi John,
nice pickup the standard would be about 1923 I think ...Dave...
Here's the pellet damage from the two guns- On the left is the .22 from the Standard, t'uther is from the Meteor
Not a lot of power in the Standard, may strip it tomorrow, have a feeling the piston seal may be shot!! There's not a lot of resistance from the springs either!!

By the way, I just found a period 3-7x20 Webley scope for the Meteor but I have to make a couple of little clamps as the front set are missing
