Evening all
I've got one of the bolt action break barrel rifles here with two sets of stamps on the stock
left side has Ansons Steelhouse Lane address, the other has an upside down stamp with a couple of letters worn away, it appears to be.....

Carr_er & Co Ltd
Newcastle Staff.

I'm guessing it's carrver or carryer but after Googling it and looking at grace's guide I'm still non the wiser.
Any ideas people ? It could be a shop or ironmonger who sold guns made elsewhere but with their name on as was common in the shotgun trade or possibly just a gunshop. They mustn't have been too fussed about their reputation or I'd have thought they'd have stamped/branded it the right way up . Maybe it was Monday morning or Friday afternoon though eh.
I've not posted photos because there are no traces of the missing letter so would probably be of little use.
