Mystery Pellet Tin & Tell 2 Stampings

    Hi'

Below are some links to a mystery pellet tin BBS member wilkinwww1 (Olly) would like to identify or at least obtain some thoughts as to its possible heritage.

The tin accompanies a Haenal 28 air pistol within a wooden case put together buy a previous owner. The label appears to depict a man leveling a shotgun with no associated text, so may have been home made by somebody wanting to assemble a unique set.

In addition to this, Olly has a Tell 2 with 'P.C.B.' (see picture) stamped on the rear of the back strap (cocking aid) lever. I posted a thread some time ago to try and establish the variation in these stampings among Tell 2 pistols. I have seen examples with no stampings, F.C.B. more commonly M.A.C. and now 'P.C.B'.

Does anybody have a Tell 2 with stampings other than those above which might add to the picture ?

    Hi Brian,

The arm looks like a German Drilling, as there appears to be a third barrel under the two side by side barrels. I don't recall ever seeing a pellet tin with just a picture and no narrative to indicate the origin of the pellets - it makes little sense other than from an aesthetic perspective as a maker usually likes to advertise their wares. I would agree with you over a previous owner wanting to make up something 'pretty' in this case.

A nice image all the same.

Had my Tell2 to hand and a quick check shows M.A.C Made In Germany so nothing ground breaking there. Atb,Phil

    Hi Brian,

Thanks for posting and hosting the pictures - really interested to hear what people think. And thanks to the comments so far.

I haven't seen the likes of the tin before and have no idea whether it is a genuine, period, tin or something simply put together by the previous owner. The pistol and tin are in a very nice, well made, wooden case which has obviously been specially made for it. It may be that the tin has similarly been made up. However, other members might know different. There are a few pellets in the tin. Like John says, however, I found it odd that there is no text at all.

    Thanks

    Olly

The pellet tin label looks like it's been cut out from from an old print for me, because why would you show someone firing a shotgun to advertise pellets.

I would agree with the above, as the label is far from round, instead of the perfect die cut labels which are the norm on old tins, it looks like a scissors job in the past by someone to brighten up an old tin
