Kenny C has just worked up a load with N140 and 55gr v-max (see the Oy Elliot thread) it's not been used in anger yet as we've not got a lot of fox about but accuracy is there
does any one use vitt 140 and 55grain heads for foxing ,as been given two tubs and how many grains do you use ,as only used target in the past thanks sorry lads forgot to mention its 22/250 bullet

Thanks for looking
I use 25.3 grains of N140 but thats in GGG brass and my rifle I start to get flat primers at 25.6 and the speed only went up by 30fps so I have dropped back with an 18" barrel I was getting 2800fps not stonking along but I suspect it will suit my needs.

Well according to Vihtavouhri it's not a bad choice giving as good if not better velocity for 55 gr bullets than the other powders they list, works well under 69grainers too

I ran out of varget so carried on using n140 in my 223. Very similar burn ratios on some comparison charts. It shot very accurately & made a noise, but was not the most efficient powder for the bullet weight I was using (53s). I now am on n133 in the 223 & keep the n140 for the 308. I get more velocity from less powder in the 223 now.
Don't know about a 22/250 but for 223, N140 is good for bullets of 60gr or heavier, but a little too slow burning for anything much lighter where N133 makes a better choice. I use N140 for 69gr 223's (which print ragged one hole groups) and N133 for 60gr V-max and 55gr SGK. Get much better velocities for a lower charge with the N133 and no compression of the load.
I hear what you're saying but a better case fill or even a compressed load from a higher charge can surely lead to more consistency as there's less space for the propellant to move around differently? Don't know.
I use it under 69 gr TMKs too, for 52/55 gr bullets I use TAC and for 40s I use exterminator. May have to change that soon though as no one knows when any is coming in!

Have you any use for any .224 55gr VMax bullets? I need to reduce my holding before my renewal in feb so will be selling some soon
Trying to get back into my shooting so hope to see you on the range sometime soon

My karma ran over your dogma
Used N140 for years in most of my rifles (even tried it in 375 HH). In my 243 35grns behind 87grn vmax works brilliantly. Have taken foxes out to 350 yrds with it.
It's a very versatile and fast burning powder so no issues if the barrel length is a little short.
i use 36 grains vit 140 55g sierra foxes dont like them
