Hi, it should be running about 640 fps if perfect but on the really older ones it tends to be around the 580 - 600 fps mark

Hi All,
First post so be gentle...
Just over a month or so ago I purchased a 44 year old FBW 300s to do 10m Target shooting at the club. I have been using a Walter LGV (new model) fitted with the 6ft/lb piston and it is really good but I wanted something a bit smoother.
I have put it over the chronograph and obtained readings of between 512 to 531ft/s. I think it is a wee bit low and constancy seems off when compared to my LGV which is 595ft/s has a spread of 5 and St dev of 2.1.
So my question is are the FBW 300s reading about right?
Cheers.

Yup, probably springs or seals or a combination of both need replacing.
If you are already aiming for the exact center of everything, then the target’s size shouldn’t matter — the center of a beach ball is just as big as the center of an aspirin tablet. -Byron Ferguson
Thanks for responding, I will order a service kit.
Another question....The rear Sight will not adjust down. On inspection the threads on the adjustment screw are worn out, the block will move down against the springs so I guess both the block and screw need replacing. Any ideas on where I could obtain those parts?
Factory spec is 640 fps but that is with a 7 grain pellet. Both of mine make around 565 fps with 8.2 grain pellets, both serviced in the last 12 months with factory piston buffer, piston ring, breach seal, mainsprings & spacer. They are a 10m target rifle not designed for high power. You might find changing pellet may get you a little extra speed.

Hi John,
Thanks for the information. I tested it with R10 match which i think are 8.2gr so my results are just down from yours
More of a concern is consistency. How good is yours?
Mines running 6ftlbs with Falcon pellets.
Thanks - Geoff.
Just tested my FWB 300s. 567-570 fps with R10 Match pellets @ 8.2gr.
The rear sight problem might just be a missing circlip, I wouldn't think they get used much once zeroed, even over 30 or 40 years.

Thanks John,
Cannot see a circlip, should it be fitted on the threaded screw for the ups and down?
Hello to All,

I also get stuff from 'Olympic Marksman Equipment' on Fleabay.
Have fun & a good Sunday
