Eurotunnel with sub 12ft/lbs air rifle

    Hi again!

Has anyone recently travelled on the tunnel to France, and if so - what are the procedures?
I believe you have to declare it when booking, so that your car receives a firearms sticker etc on arrival, but there doesn't seem to be the option when doing it online. Only vehicle type/size/trailer etc.

Going to pick up a car next week so would like to use the opportunity to collect my hw77 at long last!

    Cheers, Matt

I am sorry as I don't know the answer but I should imagine this sort of thing must a nightmare for UK people who take part in shooting comps over mainland EU and would have to travel with their rifles.

Not tried it - but I've seen the signs at the Euro tunnel entrance. It did not look onerous at all - as you drive through there was a point where you declared them. This was several years ago though.

Cheers anyway. I found a eurotunnel link on google stating they must be declared before arrival but when searching the site I find nothing... Tad frustrating!

Édit: ok have found the page and you just declare when you arrive (as you said aris! )
Hopefully they won't mind me wasting their time with an unlicensed 'firearm'

I could be wrong, but I seem to recall that it looked to me like the "queue" for firearm holders was shorter - so you could well be quids in if going with a firearm!

Going myself soon with 2 air rifles. Declare on arrival that you have them but importantly keep them out of sight in boot and keep any ammo seperate, they suggest in glove box.

    Thumbs up

i have travelled to France with air rifles , easy enough once you declare them , i have found that they seem to like to fact that i had trigger locks on them, and as said before keep covered and ammo in glove box.

I suppose after Brexit we won't be able to have a European Firearms Permit, a document which was introduced a decade or so ago to solve most of these problems. Oh silly me I forgot, the Government won't let us have EFPs for sub 12 fpe air rifles, in case the entire nation decides to apply and the licensing authorities become swamped.

All went very smoothly I have to say.

I declared it right at the start and got my blue sticker, then told passport control who notified security/customs.
They asked me to go into a certain search bay and came and had a chat! First guy who was a bit younger didn't realise it was a sub 12ft so asked his mate to help out. So he asked whether it was 'one of those high power ones' and when I said no, I just thought I should declare it to save a panic, he thanked me and then said he had no need to even look in the car!

    Easy peasy
