I think it spoils the look of the rifle and wouldnt imagine using open sights. Custom 97 style forend would be my choice
One of my favorite airguns is a 460 but the plastic front sight unit is the one bit I dont like, I could just go for a custom part but I would like to see if I could do something with the factory part as it is light and keeps the weight down.
I cant make up my mind what to do.
Just leave it as it is or go scope only

Or go for a custom part and done with it,
I would appreciate any opinions

The front sight can easily be replaced with a 470TH style sightless weight but you will need to change the cocking lever as well.

If you go down the custom part route Barry might it not be an idea to scope out the possibility of making this a moderator?
Its a shame that Diana dont take a lead in this respect and make a dedicated one for those rifles that may be used for hunting.
Just a thought?

depends the market. out hunting and the scope gets broken . no iron sights = no food .
in a survival or hunting for food situation.
if you look at lots of hunting centre fire or rimefire rifles the have both a scope and iron sights .
maybe not such a big thing on an airgun though ,depending on the market
Aware it's not a straight swap but doesn't sound too hard.
Amusingly so are you!

(my retort is pretty much the same as Hectors! Easy but, yes, requires work)
I looked at it before, about £70 IIRC though that may have just been for the weight.
That front sight is hideous.
The rear sight is positioned too far forwards to give a good sight-base. It's a scope-only gun really.
I would get rid of them both, and if open sights are something you want, then get a lighter break-barrel and have that as your dedicated open sights gun. Swapping scope with opens on one rifle is a pain in the arse anyway.
I agree, but I am not sure what to replace the front sight with as it's light and a nice balance and I don't want to spoil the feel, It's actually lighter than break barrels like the 80 and ofcourse the LGV.
Also look how close the lever is to the barrel, I like the look but not easy to fit a ball catch so close to the barrel.
The plastic unit is robust and light and as you can see in the OP easily modified to scope only and I don't have to go filling and drilling the barrel, the only thing is I don't like plastic bits

Would a 97 one fit?

No because the lever is closer to the barrel on the 460 and the length of the lever is different
This is what it looks like under the sight unit

I must admit that I like the idea of back up open sights
Anyway I was thinking about going for maximus suggestion as I liked it, but had another look at the factory sight and made some subtle changes and now I am actually satisfied, I got the post to a nice shape then took of the corners and hand finished it, even though its plastic is so robust and has a smooth solid lever lock up so the factory sight is staying.
I wonder if I will change my mind next week LOL.
Here are the subtle changes
