Sorry if this has been covered before....Am I missing something or is the HW44 a pistol which doesn't really fit into any category, is pig ugly and obscenely expensive??
Has anyone bought one?
Apologies if you have and I've just pi$$ed all over your chips, but I'm struggling to understand who this gun is marketed for
Cheers
Greg
We were also chatting about it quite recently here: http://www.airgunbbs.com/showthread....h-HW-44-Pistol

For the real scoop track down a copy of the August Airgun World periodical for an impartial and thorough test

Crucially, None of them had shot it.

I have no doubt, as a HW, that it is a very good gun, but it is designed for shooting at well over our 6ft-lbs limit, and primarily aimed at Americans who can own and use a high power air pistol for long range target shooting and pest control. Seems a bit irrelevant here at our legal power levels, especially given its cost. Though other similar pistols from AA, Falcon, Daystate, etc, have found some buyers. So there is a niche.
And I don't like the Blakes Seven looks of the thing, myself.
The thing is, it is match pistol accurate with a match pistol trigger for much less money than the match pistols that give comparable performance in those two areas.
on that basis it is a shooter and can only improve the shooting of anyone who gives it the range time for a proper trial.
it’s a really good pistol.

I have, it was very accurate, very well made, worked flawlessly and made as much sense as a ferret with purple velcro flares. Apart from the looks (who cares about that? Say all the blokes with ugly wives), it's just too big, bulky and expensive. Put a stock on it, a longer barrel and tube and it'll make a lovely rifle, but pistol?
Better to admit you walked through the wrong door than spend your life in the wrong room
It is a little visually bulky but not heavy and very well balanced, I would therefore say that bulk is irrelevant as it is not made to be swung around.
it is not cheap at around the same price as the rifle which is perfectly logical given that you are buying the same barrelled action, trigger and magazine but without the production economies of scale on the other bits. On the other hand it is as accurate as multishot pistols costing £2000, the buyer gets value either way.
In terms of looks... well it’s an air pistol...

I tried it cos a bloke at the club had one, and I really do like the idea of a ridiculous pistol. It was ridiculous, so it scored there, but when these bad boys come back into stock, that's what I'm getting!

Looks interesting but none of these things look as cool as PPK or Python?
i think that the general objection to the hw44 is on looks and that looks are a silly objection to hold against an air pistol.
It’s like judging Olympic swimming on the basis of the costumes of the swimmers...
