    Do PTFE O-rings still need to be lubed ?

    Hi all, probably a numpty question, but do PTFE O-rings still need to be lubed to preserve their durability and longevity ?

    Yes, but what application are they being used for?

    Do you mean polyurethane O rings which are the most commonly used, in place of black rubber Nitrile or Viton. They can be lubed with silicon grease when installing but not really necessary. PTFE is not usually used for O rings in air guns as it has no memory and distorts under pressure. You occasionally see small round white CO2 capsule seals in the magazines of CO2 pistols which is a cheap PTFE alternative used by manufacturers. They soon squash and mishape.

    I bought a seal kit for my HW100 and there is a PTFE -O-ring for the inlet valve that that cylinder screws onto. I was just confirming if it needs a touch of lube on it

    Yes, a dab of silicon grease will be perfect. If it had been an o ring piston head then moly would be better
