For hunting I'd go for the HW 80k in .20 Cal.
Ok, you may need to tune or have it professionally tuned but after that it'll do everything you could want from it being ideal for an FAC upgrade later should you wish !
You also have the option of fitting a custom stock to your personal taste.

Sadly, it is my experience, and also of many others, that a lot, if not all, new made air rifles, out of the box generally leave something or much to be desired.

I have had three (3) new HW rifles (HW99S, HW30S, & HW95 SuperMatch) in the last couple of years, and ALL of them needed fettling to achieve smooth shooting.

The HW99S, and in particular the HW30S needed surgery to cure the known galling issues, and the 95 short-stroked & tuned to make the most of it.

After fettling, these three (3) rifles shoot superbly.

Would you consider buying a vintage rifle ?

I think the Walther Lgv is a great option for a up to date b/barrel rifle .

Well if all the criterias are observed then the only rifle is the LGV, All the HWs will need tuning/sorting and some don't have open sights (like the 98), the LGV covers everything asked for.

However, I have been searching for a viable alternative to the HW95 in standard (ish) guise for an everymans gun.

Many have tried, so far all have failed.

Does every weirauch need tuning ect straight out the box ???,i read lots saying weirauch is poorly put together these days and need this that n tother doing to it,its a brand new rifle why would it need tuning straight out the box ???.

I have both of the above with the reduced bore V-Mach conversion - 80 and Pro Elite.

The reduced bore conversions are in a class of their own!

I also have a 98 & 80 with reduced stroke - which come a very close second, although my ProSport is rather sweet as well straight from the box apart from TB guide and top hat.

I'm trying to fettle a TX 200HC to get near to the above.....as yet it doesn't.

Diana and Walther are just logos now and although the LGV is modern it has a cast shell case trigger housing and a plastic trigger blade.

Even HW are not what they was but you can do a lot with a nice older 80 so that my choice for a break barrel also the PE and Diana firebirds

Reliability and accuracy with no nonsense ....HW80 correctly fettled....Then the Walther LGV, they are really heavy but the sheer smoothness is sublime, when the trigger is set right shoot very well indeed...All other HW's can be very successful if set up right...If weight is an issue the old Webley Longbow and FWB Sport. Too light and it all goes to pot in my experience.
