    Further Update

And confirmation of the excellent service from our fine sponsors.

I received two messages from George today. He had a message back from H&N stating that they are going to produce them in two head sizes, 4.50 and 4.51mm. The 4.50 ones are available now. George has ordered some and should be available from JSR from tomorrow.

Top, top service and can't wait to get my hands on some.

Being a bit of a dinosaur, I've always been a little wary of ordering stuff online. George says no need to register an account and they're okay with PayPal. The Mrs has a PayPal account, so I'll get her on the job.

As regards testing, in the short term I only have the back garden (14 yards max) so won't be able to give a definitive answer. However, in just under 4 weeks' time we'll be at Quigley Hollow, giving us the 75 yards opportunities. It's often "quite breezy" there, which is where I'm hoping these will shine, having vivid memories of how good the old Silhouettes were back in the mid-80s and also how well the JSB Heavies performed in the wind there a few months ago.

If only Brian's indoor range at Doncaster's closed day didn't co-incide with my day off! I'd love to give them a try there.

    New barracuda ft pellets

After initial tests the new barracuda match 4.50 are not the wonder pellet I was hoping for ! There were hardly any damaged in the tin and look really good but tried them in my hunting5 and mk2 wildcat and they were very consistent over the chrono and accuracy was good but not great ,but I was loosing about 1ftlb in power and because of this and with the accuracy as it was I won’t be using them for hunting.I was hoping they would be the ideal weight and speed but they just don’t seem to suit my barrels .I will give them another longer try at a later date ! Has anyone else had the same results ? Mike

I haven't ordered mine yet....need to get the Mrs enlisted and sort on PayPal.

I have high hopes for them. Thank you for sharing your experiences with them and be sure to keep us updated with future trials.

    P.S.

The reason I have high hopes for them is that many of my HW springers' favourite pellets are the H&N FTT and I used to love the 9.5 grains Silhouettes of old. But, obviously, come testing time I'll have to not let any bias / rose tinted shades influence the results and conduct the tests objectively.

I prefer the Barracuda heavies, they are the most accurate I have used.
    I have a 0.177 AA S400 classic.
The elevation needs to be adjusted to suit the heavy pellets, but the payback is in the accuracy and hitting power.

If they are lighter it means that there is less ' lead ' and more tin in the alloy which makes it harder. I am not a fan of non lead pellets.

or they just use less material...
Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.
