Sounds brilliant
Will definitely be there, and well done to Ford for not only hosting this shoot but also for coming up with the 15mm kill at 50 yards idea for a very worthy cause
Hello all,
The SIHFT end of season shoot will be hosted by Ford Ranges on Sunday the 28th of October 2018.
Ford Rifle Ranges,
Burndell Rd,
Yapton,
BN18 0HR
The event is open to all safe shooters with sub 12ft/lb air rifles and from any of the five hosting clubs (Swallows, Ford, Horsham Hawks, Mile Oak and Buxted) as well as teams from our established visiting clubs (Iden Fern, Meon Valley and MAD).
Other individuals will also be welcomed; all we ask is for a brief heads up that you would like to join us by dropping the SIHFT organiser a short message (Biggles).
Gates will open at 8.00am with booking in commencing at 9.00am. The shoot will start at 10.00am. A safety briefing is scheduled for around 9.50am. You must be at the safety briefing if you intend to shoot in the competition.
Please remember:
If you want to shoot with a specific person, don't leave booking-in to the last minute as you may be disappointed!
Cost
Adults = £8.00
Juniors = £5.00 (under 17)
Bonus Lane = £1.00 Adults and Juniors
Tea and coffee will be available and catering will be provided by the Ford Ranges canteen.
This weekends shoot is all about fun and so we intend to set something a little different.
There will be 16 lanes and a 17th bonus lane you can pay an exta £1 to have a go at. It will be a 15mm target set at 50 yards of which you will have to take kneeling. Anyone who knocks it over will share the winning pot and if no one knocks it over we will donate the pot to the Poppy Appeal. A worthy cause I am sure you will agree.
All odd numbered lanes will be shot as a 3 positional course and will be set to UKAHFT rules where posible.
All even numbered lanes will be shot prone and will have a mixture of UKAHFT and non UKAHFT targets.
Mike and Charles will be presenting the end of season trophies and doing the end of season prize draw. Dont forget you must be there to win it. Those that qualify for the prize draw can be found HERE.
We hope you all enjoy it.
See you Sunday.

A 15 mm kill, at 50 yards, in the wind, kneeling, with a .22......
Bring it on!
Shame I’m working
Have fun all.

I shall be there, contemplating using the Chinese. 22 break barrel with open sights. Just not sure if it'll reach 60yds.
Have to fess up about this weekends shoot....it definately will not be to UKAHFT rules....but it will be fun
I have had a busy day trying to produce a bit of something for everyone.
For those that moan about small kills, how about a 70mm one....cannot guarentee the range it will be at

One for those that only ever hit the "dinner plates"

"Did I plate that" ding dong, one for the firemen amongst you (cheers Nigel)

For those that struggle because the paddle is behind a plate....paddle in front
https://photos.app.goo.gl/AAq6tyCqRwHw8b9G9
For the real "dead eye Dicks", where 15mm is simply too easy, how about 12mm
https://photos.app.goo.gl/uoaSU6T4QVZjYT836
Then there is the next level who don't even need the eye, i.e. the "dead Dicks" how about a 9mm (good luck Nick)

There are some out there who always hit the centre of the paddle, so why bother with the rest of it, waste of metal

Finally, for those not quite that good who mainly hit the paddle but around the edges you should be fine with this one

For the purist, there will also be a bunch of normal targets to feast on.

Nice one LOL, some very abstract, convergent, lateral, analytical, creative, holistic thinking going on with those targets,
Some of it inside the box, some outside. Think you are on to something with the kill-in-front target, would like to see a few slow mo shots and splitters on that one to see how it reacts.
Personal favourite is the kill-with-hole target, that is true kill or nil. I will copy and post this on the SiHFT Facebook page for those who dont visit the Forthcoming events page ( I nearly missed it)

Wherever Jean goes I must follow....Can't say I am enthusiastic but I shall try my old best. Roy & I have been moving soil & gravel all week so our bodies are already in a funny shape (well, more than usual) therefore we may be well qualified.

I knew you would see the point of that target, I had posted about it a while back on another forum, heres what was said:
This follows from the discussion about FT rule changes, its not meant to be a nod to everyone having to change targets due to a few moaners/cheats, it was just me looking at what's available and seeing if it can be improved.
I really like the cam lever lock affair on current silhouettes and cannot easily see a way that can be improved but the overall package can be I think.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/qKEsYggerg3uvd7g9
So this one has some advantages:
- as already discussed paddle in front means a split hits paddle first the split piece then hitting the plate, I am not sure this would make it easier for a split to knockover a target but it looks like it might
- no pieces of lead go behind the plate, these can be a big cause of failures
- a club only needs 30 plates but can then fit any size, or shape, paddle to those plates in seconds
- if the nut on the stem is moved the sensitivity of the target can easily be adjusted, useful were angled shots are set
On this prototype the biggest error is when falling the stem hits one of the lever hinges, easy to change.
I know, current targets work, what's the point, they will be expensive.....blah de blah, its me messing in the workshop😁
I agree it would be interesting to see some slowmotion video...current targets work just fine if maintained but this design may save a club some money if buying a whole set from scratch.
..."My son," said the Norman Baron...."The Saxon is not like us Normans. His manners are not so polite. But he never means anything serious till he talks about justice and right"...
Just checked your last link, I like the way it could be retro fitted to existing targets.
I agree there is nothing wrong with the current design so long as it's well maintained.
But your idea gives great flexibility with the ability to swap out both kill zone size and shape, also no one could complain about seeing daylight around the paddle. My one doubt about this design is jamming, the further away from the centre of kill you hit, the more chance of the kill zone shaft tilting and wedging in the brass bush. If this idea was built into a target from the ground up, I can't fault it.
