Hi I have acquired a mk2 service rifle in nearly mint condition boxed with serial number s138 and I am having trouble dating it can anybody help many thanks in advance
Yes, late 1932 would be my estimate too.
John
l would love to see some photos of it.
I have No S59 which is an early one
I had S8 which is the earliest unmolested example known. It now belongs to another serious collector.

What a treasure, I have not yet seen a mint boxed service first series! Pics would be very welcome

Ha, missed that one indeed....
There were only 1000 1st. pattern and 1000 2nd. pattern made, so not many in the first place.
I've had three 1st. pattern, all sold, but only one 2nd. pattern, which I still have, and after talking to other collectors it would seem the 2nd. pattern is the more difficult one to find.
A while ago I started a thread on how many Webley Mk.1 rifles were still in existence, but don't intend to do one on the 1st. and 2nd. pattern Service rifles. I'll leave that to someone else.
I have S1451 which is a 2nd series and two 1st edition rifles
