The Hammerli rifle I have is the early type without the anti-bear trap so it doesn't get used much.
Hi all.
I've just picked up a Hammerli Model 403, sidelever target rifle with dioptre sights etc. Haven't had a chance to use it in anger yet. They're not something I know much about.
I'm guessing they're 1970's, were they a decent accurate gun or just a target rifle wanabee?
Thanks.
Neil.

Does it shoot ok when you have used it?
I had one in 1970. It was a revelation for me as it was so accurate by comparison with anything else available. Mine had a barrel weight which made it look like a an under lever. Not very powerful but quite accurate. Sold it and to buy a fwb 300s but fond memories.

I've just had chance for a few shots with it this afternoon. It's really nice, seems accurate, very little recoil. Does seem to have quite a bit of boinging noise from the spring.
Don't know if it's worth stripping it down to check condition of the spring & guide etc & re-lube. Are they straightforward to dismantle & reassemble??

Apolgies, it would appear that mine was the earlier Hammerli Puma model 496 mod 3 probably about 1971.
