    PPU 174gn .308

Hi has anyone had any experience of reloading with PPU 174gn bullets for the .308. I'm looking for loads ideally using Vhit n140.

    Many Thanks

I've used this bullet successfully out to 1000 yards at Barton Road in Cambridgeshire. I used Varget which is no longer available so had to start with all the development again. I have had a lot of success with Reloader 15 which has almost identical characteristics to N140. What barrel length rifle are you using - and what range is the maximum you'll use it at? If it's long barrelled you may be able to use a slower powder to better effect ( I use a 20" Sako ). Let me know and I'll dig out my reloading diary and P.M. you.

This is uncanny I have today just loaded up 25 rounds of .308 in 5 batches of differing weights of N140 ( 39,39.5, 40, 40.5 and 41gn) for the PPU 175gn FMJBT. I an looking to develop a load for my K98 with a 25" Maddco match barrel.
Any info for this bullet/rifle would be appreciated.

Wow I wasnt expecting such a great response!

I'll be shooting it out of my savage ftr which has a 30" barrel. When we are able to travel again ( I'm in wales) I'll try and get up to Orion so will be looking to shoot to 800 yard +

    Any advice is welcome!

    Thanks again

I use these bullets in my 7.5x55 Swiss - they are the same bullets that PPU uses in their factory ammunition. They are acceptable in the K31, but not so good in the K11.

if it is the same bullet as the PPU 174gn 7.5 I have sued it for years in my K31 with RL17/RS60 out to 1000yds it has worked just fine, I don't load for .308 but in 7.5x55 the powder works very well with the heavier bullet, lots of folk use N140 so it should be fine with that if thats what you have

I don't reload 308 but I do load the 175gn bullet for my K11 for ETR range use. They are okay ish on Fig 11 out to 1k if I can get some one to spot!
For target shooting I much prefer the 155gn scenars. I use N150 for both.
Getting back to the op and his 30 inch 308 I would opt for N150 too if I was loading for it.
And I would be looking at using lapuas - the 170gn lockbase or the 167 scenars.
I have a couple of friends using the 170gn lockbase in 308 @ 1k and do very well with them.
They were designed for long range and one of Vihts accuracy loads is this bullet and N140 in a 24 inch barrel.
I wouldn't be in a rush to be using ppu for any thing other than causal shooting.
At least you can get the lapuas at a decent price in 1k boxes.
