Shooting, cheap wine, good weather. What's not to like!
What would Packham make of this?
Just back from 7 weeks camping (motorhome) near Beziers in the S of France. Whilst out cycling, most days, through vineyards and by the canal du midi, I couldn't help noticing large flocks of woodies in the fields. Talking to a , semi-resident in one of the site chalets, he tells me that the mayor of the local village/town of Bessan has put out a bounty of 2 euros for every woodie (dead) presented to the marie (council offices).
With the correct perms and my TX200, I could've paid all the site fees in a couple of days! Maybe next time.

Allen

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.....
I think it is against the law to shoot live quarry with air rifles in France unfortunately.
Rich.
WANTED: Next weeks winning lottery numbers :-)
Since September 2013, air rifles with a muzzle energy less than 20 joules (14 ft lbf) can be acquired by persons over age 18 and no licence is required. (Previously the limit was 10 joules.) For air rifles of 20 joules muzzle energy or more, a hunting licence or club shooting licence is required. However, hunting or pest control with air guns is illegal in France.
i never knew that
Some places in Canada have yearly comps to see who can shoot the most gophers with prizes.
IIRC Japan paid foreign rifle hunters to come and shoot deer because rifles are banned and some places where overrun.
Didn't we in the UK once have squirrel bounties at the post offices??
Master Debater
I thought I'd read somewhere that there were restrictions on airgun shooting, but didn't know the details.
It might explain the reason for all the shotguns I could hear being used most mornings, especially on Sundays, and quite early on.
We were on a camp site at Grau d'Agde adjacent the south bank of the River Herault, all the shooting was from the fields on the other side of the river...lots of itinerant workers vans in the fields, as well as 'showmens' camps (season ended for circus entertainers?).
Anyone in France that knows the details of the Ban?

I believe so .. wasn't it 2 bob (= 10p in new money) a grey tail presented at the local Police station? I think it operated in the 50's but not sure when it ended.
Cheers, Phil
