Pics of my Walther LGR Running Boar (not politically correct then!) that I bought new in 19??, and shot nationally, with two scopes, one hi power, and then a Nikko Stirling with post reticule when they changed the rules to restrict the scope mag to times 4 and restricted the diameter, I could not afford a twin post, and then did not like them when I tried one!

Also pic of the target, we called the 10 mt ones Running Rat!

I sold it ten years back, won't tell you who to, to avoid him getting begging emails!

I sold it on when I managed to acquire my FWB Mod 300S Running Boar rifle, the LGR Running Boar now resides with an enthusiast in Essex who is also called Robin.

I still have copies of the photographs of it that you sent me when I bought it, if needs be I can e-mail them back to you.

When I bought my Walther LGR RB they were only built to order, so they will be quite rare. Mine was a a well used one as our club had a 10mt Running Boar range, it was very difficult as you will see if Mark posts the target the rings were not a lot bigger than the precision 10 mt, and the two speeds were a slow run, two meter gap in five seconds, and a fast in 2.5 seconds. And you have to start with the butt below the elbow and not move till the target appears.
It was a demanding but fun event.

I see the buyer of mine ten years back has posted in this thread, does he still have it?

As you can see, I had a high custom mount on mine to get an upright head position, done after seeing the then World Champ shoot at Bisley with the .22rf 50 meter event, his home made scope mounts were welded on!

The scopes were not parallax correct then, most were set for 100 mts, so we had a tame optician who ground .1 diopter lenses that we put in the front of the scope to correct for 10 mt parallax.

Its a shame this event has died, its a great event. When we had our range at Norwich I tried to get the FT boys to try it, as we would have allowed FT rifles, but none would, too difficult!

The BFRC still does it at Bisley, but mostly these superb pieces of kit are retired as collectors pieces, a shame, they need shooting at moving targets.

I love the whole running target aesthetic of these classics.

That 300 is a beaut. Nice rifle but I always found the thumbhole uncomfortable. It lacks a shelf for the thumb so I find it has a tendency to stick out at 90 degrees. But it does have a vertical thumb shelf that works a treat.

Personally, when it comes to ‘shootability’ (if there is such a word) I think the LGR RT is the finest air rifle ever made, here’s a snap of mine.



Also my Annie 380 RT, maybe the ultimate spring air rifle….

I really really wanted one before. Suffice it to say this hasn’t helped!!! And I also want some of the actual boar targets as well, one of each to get copied properly by a printer. If anyone has one of these for sale let me know, there i’ve said it!

I still have one as a keepsake, and wish to keep it, its a left facing, of one of the original Edelmann targets, they are a piece of art. You could try the Edelmann website, or email them, they may still have some, or maybe still make them as the Germans are not so stupidly PC as us.

The pic is slightly bigger than the correct size, the length of the boar from tip of nose to end of tail 237 mm. the ring size's are ten dot 1mm, 9 ring 5mm, other rings 2.5mm out to outside of 1 ring 51mm, that's measured with a ruler, but its pretty close.

The new current targets are just an aiming mark, black spot, sad PC fools!

Our first club moving target range was home made, with a model rail track and an engine chassis with a wire frame to hold the targets with one left and one right targets, and then manually operated. ends and track protected by sheet metal, it was cheap and great fun, and two people got into the national team using that! We sold our proper one years ago, wonder who has that?

Its great fun, but its very difficult, great for those that like a challenge

PS. Have just done some research, I think Edelmann no longer makes targets. I have searched Kruger which is "probably" the best target supplier and they do not do a RB target either now, only the ISSF aimng mark ones. Kruger do a hunting boar target but its not running, so its make your own!

Robin, thanks for the info, I agree in so far as I can’t find a source of the original boar type! I am hoping to just come across a couple unused or maybe even used, to get copied. Boar targets seem to be even rarer than the actual rifles!!!!
