    I suspect it may have been refinished and someone made a good job of gold infilling the lettering.
    I've never seen a Service with gold infilling before.

    It looks like Paul Chell’s work - he’s refinished a few of these I believe.
    The price looked too good to be true...

    Nope, prewar Webleys had no infill, hence why the finish on this Service has raised some questions.

    Currently looking for Baikal Makarov pistols with the following prefixes to the serial number: 98, T01, T09, T21, T22
    Prefer boxed or cased but will consider loose examples too.

    Still looks like a bargain for somebody not too concerned with owning refinished rifles.

    Here is one that I bought from a well known member of Gentlemans Corner It has had the letters highlighted in white and I like it.

    Many years ago a friend was showing me his collection - he had Services with the lettering infilled.
    He used a white wax crayon to do it.
    Looked OK as above , but not permanent.

    I've sometimes done this to highlight markings for photography and as you say Sam - it is not permanent.
