Per John Griffiths's fabulous book, the post-war model 5 was introduced 1958. Wood grip / frame until 1962, then gray plastic 1962-early 70's, brown plastic until the revised 5G (metal frame, separate grip panels) came out in 1978.
I have a nice-condition early one - note the tapered barrel and nice machined cutaways on the barrel block and breech jaws. The breech seal can be replaced with an O-ring but may need a little shimming. The combination of stamped and cut detailing on the wood is amazing and must have been tough to do...
The later molded grip / frames are not as pretty but actually quite comfortable for my hand at least.
