Yes. Ian was a great figure in collecting. Always sharing his extensive knowledge, providing insights and supporting events. And that legendary sense of humour. Life will be less interesting and less fun without him at events and on the forum.
I know Ian Jones' proper obit thread is here:

but I wanted to note that his passing is a terrible loss to collectables in particular. I knew this day would come eventually, perhaps hastened by his being a survivor of this, but I'm sure everyone who knew him on this BBS hoped his death would never come.
Some of Ian's amazing collection:

In British slang an anorak is a person who has a very strong interest in niche subjects.

I can't believe he is gone, only saw him a couple of weeks ago at the Melbourne fayre.
My FWB P34 used to belong to Ian, I will be thinking about him every time I use it.
Who is going to take the pi$$ out of Wobley pistols now?
Too many guns, or not enough time?
RIP Ian, you will be so much missed on here.
Just saw the news of Ian's passing today, although i never got the chance to meet him I shed a tear reading the moving tributes to him on here & the other forum this morning, his sense of humour, courage & help to others including me will be sorely missed.
I am so very sorry to hear this terrible news.
Ian had a great sense of humour, especially when it came to winding up Webley air pistol collectors. Who can forget the image of Ian stirring his tea with a Webley pistol barrel?
Ian was also incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. He lent me a couple of special Webley rifles to test a few years ago and there was never any rush for their return.
Ian will be greatly missed.

Currently looking for Baikal Makarov pistols with the following prefixes to the serial number: 98, T01, T09, T21, T22
Prefer boxed or cased but will consider loose examples too.
Ian was, quite simply, unique. We will all miss him so much. None of us at the club can quite believe he has gone. Absolutely devastated.

This is very sad news. Ian was a lovely guy who would help anyone. Rip buddy.
There is a thread in General Section, but here in Collectors is where I.J. so often frequented.
Everyone knows I'm a fan of the FWB Sport. I.J. could always point out the fact he had a Beeman Walnut Sport on FWB Sport threads, knowing no one else did.Especially me
We all know thanks to I.J. that Webley pistols are door stops and their barrels tea spoons.
I would return the "obvious" that HW35's are fugly.
He had great pride in his collection, because he had quite a superb collection. All rifles that anyone here would have great enjoyment from being custodians of. Examples in the main from the 1980's, which is an era that I too share a passion for, as many here do.
What was so very good of I.J. is he shared them with us. His knowledge, pictures, and help. Importantly, the odd hard to find spare part too. He was very generous.
I.J. will be sorely missed by many here. RIP
I will certainly miss the banter and informed contributions made by Ian to what will now be a less informed forum with his passing.

I didnt know Ian, except by his postings on the forums. I know he was a keen collector and had a lot of BSFs
Im sure with Ians sense of humour, he wouldnt object to this post by you being reposted.

Also ---maybe the riflemen could have an informal pistol shoot using only Webleys. Im sure Ian would appreciate that.
Cooler than Mace Windu with a FRO, walking into Members Only and saying "Bitches, be cool"
That's a real kicker, have just read this
Goodbye mate, from the very first time we met you made us laugh...
ATB, Ed
I have only just come across this and must say I’m taken aback … I knew about his condition, but had no idea he was at that point.
A great loss to the shooting community … When someone passes, you automatically think of the last time you saw them.
Mine was when he was at Target Sports in Bolton, he and another guy fitted a Venom type silencer to my 77 … That must be getting on 35 years ago … Sad day today.
Not sure where I`m going.....But I`ll get there someday
dont get on here much recently but to log on and read this is very sad, i met ian a couple of times and he was a great guy with so much airgun knowledge, RIP ian
hw 80custom, , hw 35 luxus, hw35 std,
What a sad loss, I never met Ian but greatly enjoyed his writings, good humour, expertise and original take on it all.
