Quite possibly beech that has spalted - you can get these funny streaks when fungi gets into the wood from damage - like if a long branch has fallen off/split off in the wind, but the tree continues to grow ok before felling. Makes it look more interesting and doesn't weaken the wood particularly.

Beech, and it looks to me stripped at some point. These rifles were powerful, new design, and inexpensive. Hard trigger though. The varnish wasn't much good and showed damage quite fast. Quite dark too, well dark compared to what BSA was trying.
Webley did do a walnut MK1 and a MII stock delux, which are quite smart.
