    HW45 Lanyard?

Has anyone ever used the lanyard hole at the rear of the pistol grip on the HW45?
What's supposed to go in there?
I was thinking about a D loop but I can't see how to get one in without spoiling the finish on the frame, it would get scratched and scuffed.

Likely a lanyard because whatever goes in there, it does so with the grips in place. Google images is short on pictures of the hole being used and I think that this rules out the hole being there for accessories. I have custom grips on mine so the hole is covered anyway.

Pretty sure you should just thread a thick cord through the hole to a good length and tie off... if it's there to give the nostalgia of a service item that is.

Yes, that seems the only option.
I should have thought of this but googling 1911 lanyard loop brings up plenty of examples and the history behind it.
I generally use a leg holster with my HW45, but I'm thinking of trying a lanyard so that I can loop it over my shoulder.
