Spring was too compressed to be effective.
Hi all, I was tinkering with the Lightning and decided to try some different springs, anyway cut a long story short, spring with one power band washer on the rear guide, it was running at 12.3ftp, took power band off, now doing 12.7ftp.
How's that work out?

Spring was too compressed to be effective.
I've had this before now on an HW35 (I'll give you time to dry wretch Pete..)
It's probably close to coil bound with the power band added, or it was under to much tension after fitment. I suppose it's a balance to allow the spring to give maximum power under tension.
As I was told on here "welcome to the wonderful world of springer tuning.."
I may take a couple of coils off and fit the band back on as it allows the spring end to rotate a bit more (so I've read).
Thanks for the replies so far Gents

Had that happened a few times. One coil removed, flatten the end and polish should be enough.
Shameless hijack, but fwiw I would only lose one coil at a time too
Tinbum two things, that is quite possibly the most comical avatar I've seen for a long time, so I'm going to steal it for my own uses (testing HR's sense of humour), and back to business, I've emailed but no response from your elves....... any chance of getting an HW80 top hat and slip washer on it's own? For now I've cut down an old OEM Weihrauch rear guide including filing down the metal end washer, but a pukka delrin one would be a few grams lighter I'm sure

Defo only take one coil off. Put it this way you can't put one back if it drops way too far.

Chopping the spring until the power starts to drop and then fitting a power washer is sometimes the way to go.
Repariere nicht, was nicht kaputtist.
One coil chopped off, finished and flattened, still 12.1ftp, can't be arsed anymore today, lop another coil off hopefully tomorrow.

I would squash a coil first
Pete
At 12.1, I'd be taking that extra coil off, Pete. The issue, to my mind, can often be down to the transfer port choking and not flowing the air quickly enough with the more rapid compression and pressure & temperature build-up. If an extra coil off dropped the power too much (I guess it won't), you can always put an extra washer or two in.
