Ramblings re a couple of Airgun videos.....

So, 'er indoors was out for a while yesterday evening, presenting a bit of a viewing opportunity without the ensuing ear bending......

Airgun World Podcast (number 11?) and the guest was a chap from Hull Cartridge and they had a good natter about Weihrauch.

Now, I'm not a PCP man, but blimey........Andy's Airgun Reviews latest video features the BSA Defiant Bullpup. Usually retailing for well over £1000? Guessing they haven't been racing out and Vector Air have bought a load. Complete with Eagle Vision Picatinny mount and they're retailing them at £495! Wow! They're sure to fly out at that. It's budget gun money for a regulated BSA with their revered cold hammer forged barrel, built in Blighty......if ever a PCP might get me excited, that could, at that price....

Big Dan's Airguns.....Winchester 45. I know not of their lineage. China? But take a look at those sights. They look very, very BSA-like? Just blatant copies? Or is there some connection between the rifles and Gamo as this break barrel rifle also features a plastic breech, as per some Gamo models???

Pinged this back up as it's slipped a little to say how early it is. The Defiant might be of interest to a good few people at this price?

    Tony,
I've some vague recollection that the Winchester 45 was made by Gamo.

The defiant is being deeply discounted all over the place by the looks of it Tone. It’s up against some stiff competition from the Turks and Chinese too. There are a lot of horror stories about some of the newer pcp offerings from bsa. Add to this that AAR is a true blue bsa fanboy and everything they make is the best thing since sliced bread, even if it’s a load of cobblers, and I reckon if it seems too good to be true it probably is.

The Defiant is being discontinued, hence the price.

    This taken from GunMart 2019

Winchester, now have two break barrel rifles available.

The Winchester 45 and 45-RS are quite similar in appearance and share many common parts but they each have their own identity. They are made under licence by Gamo in Spain, hence them being ion the BSA/ Gamo stand.

The RS version has a scope rail (R) and silencer (S)

Thank you for that, Mark. I did think it was probably a little too Gamo / BSA-esque for it not to be, but with so much coming from the big C these days, wasn't sure.....

Cheers, chaps. I'd always got the feeling that they weren't exactly racing off the shelves.....

I watched the AAR review on the RAW HM1000
It is so far removed from my own experience that I don't bother anymore

It was never a gun that was on my radar, Martyn. I wonder if there will be lots more takers at this clearance price?

Understood, Pete. We're quite lucky that we have that video channel available to us on Sky TV. So, often, when the missus is out on a Tuesday with the lad at sword fighting, I'll have the TV on in the kitchen whilst eating and clearing away and cuddling the dogdog.

If I were in the market for a new gun I most certainly wouldn't go by the findings of one on-line review. At our ages and level of experience, we probably have a very good idea of what will be good and otherwise. And, with such wonderful mediums like this very forum, we have trusted and knowledgeable people on board to ask. And many of our wonderful friends at The Bash.

Back in my earlier days of my shooting career, I could talk with Dave and Ivan at Venom and would trust what these specialists would say. And, in more recent times, I could talk with Steve. Now sadly gone. But that accumulated knowledge by many others as well as myself we can pass on to help others.

Being honest I wasn't even aware of the model, only when I saw the review

I remember going to the shooting show at the NEC Birmingham in 2018 ,when they unveiled the Defiant.
The was a big crowd waiting to have a hold and a proper look at the gun.
I didn’t bother queuing up. Not seen one since in the flesh.
I do fancy taking a punt on one (I like my bsa pcp’s) but would need to have a proper go with one first.
    Les..
