There's a huge amount of misinformation about

    From our website

    BUYERS PREMIUM
Holt's charge a premium to the buyer on the hammer price of each lot sold at the following rates:

25% up to and including £100,000
20% in excess of the hammer price above £100,000
VAT is payable on the premium at the applicable rate.

Under each Lot entry in the online catalogue, there is a buyers premium calculator.

The sellers fee is much less but varies based on the number/value of guns, this covers the reps visits, valuations, transporting thousands of guns around the country, catalogues, websites, insurances and a fair few staff to make the big day with drinks and canapes function properly

Its not ideal for everyone but for high value guns or significant collections its probably the best way to generate maximum value in a short timescale.

You can see the exact all in cost with the calculator under every auction lot online

So based on your £2000 using the calculator

    What is the total payable?

    Enter Hammer price £ = £2000
VAT on Hammer Price = 0
    Buyer's Premium = £500
    VAT on Buyer's Premium = £100
    Total Payable = £2,600
So the buyers premium is £500 (not £1100) or 25%, the VAT goes the the government not us.

That's absolutely not the case the sellers fee is much less and covers the costs as above

Ok, you're right the seller does pay less, the total fee to the seller would be £300 if the gun sold for 2k... the buyer pays 600 extra, which still means that the gun is effectively 50% more expensive
Everything depends on the hammer price, we have a lot of buyers in a lot of countries, if you look at what quality collections of airguns make on sale day its often double what you would get selling privately and massively more than trying to sell a collection to an RFD in one hit.

As long as you can agree a reserve that your comfortable with, all the risk is with us to sell it at a good price?

A good few people think nothing of paying £2K-£3K, even £6K on a shotgun. What price a pretty fab air rifle? The better, more sophisticated, ones have as much engineering as any shotgun.

Apologies for straying a bit off thread, but I notice Holts also have a refinished Webley Mk2 Service on offer in the rarer .25 calibre with matching Ser No to the barrel.

The refinish will no doubt put many off, but it will be interesting to see if it reaches anything close to the estimate.

If its not pitted its straightforward to strip the enamel and polish and reblack to the original finish spec...

Might have a punt myself if it goes for the lower estimate

    Hello Richard,

I agree, but it will have been refinished which would be major turn off for some collectors.

The .25 calibre Mk2 Service sold for £600 hammer (£780 with costs.) Still a good price for a refinished example.

Considering the rarity, considering the high profile these rifles have, considering its a good looker, then I'm not surprised at all. There are cars that cost more than that to get serviced.
    Someone has a lovely rifle.

Looks like someone wanted it quite badly

That or the price paid is a mistake?

It also looks like the HW55 are becoming desirable, it sold for 600 plus fees!

Agreed. The Whizzers I can sort of understand, but a total price of something over £700 for an HW55T is indeed silly.
