    Really tempted

What a brilliant idea and excellent cause. Is it possible, sensible for a team of complete novices to have a go !
Not shot at all for say 40 years and not comps. then but still got the rifles and just started restoration on some.
If not, still tempted to come along to soak up the atmosphere and make donation.

A lot of the squaddies taking part have never shot an air rifle and I think some of the Policemen are in the same boat. Its all going to be about taking part, raising awareness for the needs of our serving and ex servicemen and having fun into the bargain. So please setup a team and go for it. Your team needs a wacky name though, that's compulsory .

Hi Gary, I can bring up a std. League resettable bell target and maybe we could have a 6 yard bell lane somewhere as either a working display or side shoot, I could bring up a Lincoln / Mod D so people could have a go with a "contemporary" gun . I could do an info display board as well with a potted history, and maybe bring the "Guards" milpat to show the link to the forces...They might be interested to know that a lot of WW1 veterans would have left for France either being bell shooters before joining up, and may have learnt elementary sighting with air weapons where space / / noise / expense was an issue (cadets and private schools as well).

Let me know what you think, an easy thing to sort out and may be an added attraction, and an eye opener when they realise that 18 feet away is not as easy as you think

Brilliant idea Edster re the Bell Target side shoot, information on Bell Target and the ex Guards Mil Pattern to show our present squaddies. Plus like you say it'll be an added attraction and it will add to the celebration of air gunning idea that Terry Doe wants to promote.

Hi Gary, Is there somewhere inside / under cover at the venue where I could set this up?

Yes mate, there is supposedly a fairly big covered area. I'm doing a Recce in a few weeks, hopefully Sunday 25th August so I can get the full picture then. Come along if you want mate. I'm interfacing with Dave Simmo the guy that runs the Greyhound club, the disabled shooters reps to see if all is well with the site for wheelchair access and us, the RBL. Every one from the RBL want to meet the talented Edster anyway.

Hi Mate, sounds good...keep me posted and I will pop up as it is quite close (compared to distances I have driven in the past to look at old nettle bashers ).

Aye up Gary, just been on to South Yorks Fire service in Barnsley, guy there says that there could be some interest in this event particularly because of the military connection i.e. British Legion and Help for Heroes.

He is going to ask his colleagues and get back to me, If there is some interest I'm going up to the station with the details and etc.

Hopefully the Fire Service could be represented along with the other services.

    Will keep you informed

Hope so, I've not had any response yet from SYFS so I may be on my own. I will take a couple of guns down just in case somebody is short of a team mate but to be honest i've never shot in a competition and don't even know the format.
I shall just enjoy the day, a couple of jars and watching the shooting will be fine, see you and JB there.

I think I am going to be on exercise in Canada over this period.

Pux, if you are still entering a team I will do my best to let you know when the expected date of 'End Ex' will be but like all things the recovery phase of the Squadron is still in pencil.
