Hence the above questions on pip length,
It looks like my "MFR" is actually a "bitza" but when it works it's pin point accurate.

That's not a sub 12 pip mate. It should be 17mm.

So I best be looking for a new hammer ?

could it be that it's this rather than the regulator that's causing me all this grief setting it up

just buy one of those silent hammer pips - less valve impact noise too, and cheap...

the pip just unscrews from the main hammer

Short pips allow the hammer to travel further so hammer can pick up more speed so hit harder opening the vale more, OK in fac but causes issues sub 12 because you will need to run Reg pressure rediculously low or a very weak hammer Spring.

If your gun is fitted with that hammer i would also look at the barrel transfer port, it may also have been drilled, it should have a stepped port into the barrel of 2.8mm.

Your best option is to put your hammer in a Jiffy bag and post it to me.

Thankfully the barrel port looks standard & untouched, there has been a fair bit of work done at the other end grinding out the shroud baffles, it's virtually silent.
