Yes, I think you're pretty much correct in what you say, Bob, and a careful and considered strip, degrease and rebuild with the correct lubricants (and amounts of) by a caring owner will transform & refresh many a springer. As regards the HW45 specifically (and it's not something I've done myself yet), many do report benefits from the fitting of the Custom Air Seals parachute seal to replace the PTFE standard item.

yeah the ausie seal do seals better (reducing lube making it's way into the combustion chamber and holding more air) and give a softer piston landing.. and a much better shot cycle. Available on the bay.
