So I undid the screw with some long nose pliers. I can report that the ret appears to have been made out of extremely thin metal foil. It is an outer circle with the cross hairs coming off of it (all one piece).
If I can ever be bothered I might try gluing on a human hair cross hair but life is to short! 😀

I've read about spider silk being used... Not sure if that's just an internet myth though, I mean I know its strong - but recoil proof and won't degenerate with age quite quickly???

It's a .177 Osprey, in a stock I made years ago. The open sights are a sort of Sako/Voere mix, though I don't really use them, the comb's a bit high. Sometimes wears Parker Hale target sights.
I used the steel scope as I felt it suited the rest of the bits.
