    A good write up.
Out of interest, how close will it focus in - say if someone wanted one for close range ratting, would it be suitable?

It'll focus right down to less than 10 feet easily

Absolutely not, Adam. I think this would be fine for rimfire ranges as well. I can't say how it'll perform at distance ( 100yds +) when it's really dark as it just isn't getting that dark here at the moment. I have shot foxes at 150 yards and rabbits up to 100 yards. Only limiting factor so far is the 5x mag rather than the picture through the scope! I've ordered another one to put on my air rifle!

    yukon/photon

hello, well you must have got yours from the first batch sent by T/Js there are many waiting for one of these including myself, as you i dont think any user will be disapointed and i commend yukon for bringing n/v to many more shooters at a reasonable cost.

I was number 6 on the list! I just had a feeling that this unit was going to be worth having. I honestly can't fault it SO FAR!

No, it needs at least 10 meters to focus properly

Mine will easily focus down to 3 metres and is really very good for rats apart from the limited field of view.

There seems to be a lot of differing views on the net regarding the focus distance of these scopes, I haven't used mine yet but have a ratting job coming up and hope it will serve me well. There is a tip about drilling out a lens cap to about 2.5cm in the centre that helps the focusing some what, may have to give it a try if it isn't any good as standard.
Sometimes I sits and thinks, but mostly I just sits.

I have just given mine a proper measured test. I have a 14mm hole in my front iris and I can focus down to 2 metres from the front lens. Perfectly adequate for rats.

That's good to know, thanks for sharing. Where did you get the cap from or was it the one that comes with the scope?

I made it out of aluminium but if you use a plastic lens cap with a hole in you get the same effect. You can try with a piece of card if you like. I just did it in daylight so no problem.
