    .308W loads

With a .308 in the pipeline, its time to start looking at starting loads and bullet weights. Barrel length is 26" and twist is 1:12.

What powders and bullets are people using? I will be shooting out to 1000yds, including 300yd Mcqueens.

    not a bad start------^

With that barrel length it might be tricky to get 155 grain sierra and Lapua match bullets to stay supersonic but it might work out.

I'm playing with 185 gr Bergers at the moment.

all depends on what your rifle likes Nick, Scotts scaffold pipe shows pressure signs with much above 43 grns N140 behind a 2155, my 20" barrel swallows 45Grns easily and looks like 46grns isn't going to be a problem, his load spits out at almost 3000, mine 26-2700, go figure! if you aren't worried about F class at 1000, then 2155's work great at 300,600 and will hold the target at 1000, even at slower speeds, you just won't win any long range comps against 260's 6.5's etc. 175 SMK's could be a goer, Danny is your man for getting the most out of .308

44 Grains of N140 With 155 Lapua Scenars or 155 Palma Match , the Scenars are a faster bullet.

    Nick
My pet load for .308 was 44.5GN of N140 behind a 155 scenar.
For the past year or so I haven't bothered reloading as 155 grain NRA issued GGG ammunition shoots on a par with my reloads and price wise doesnt cost me a great deal more than reloading.

my ph scout with its 20 inch barrel can hold 600 yds easily.
with 175gn vld it was hitting bullseyes at diggle ranges until the wind picked up and it was landing in the 7 ring

42gns Varget in my 22" barrel gives me around 2550 fps with the 175 Bergers. & better than me at 600 yards.

Don't forget, start with publicised loads from a recognised reloading manual, before even thinking about any "internet" favourite loads! What works well in MY rifle may give unsafe loads in YOUR Rifle!
