Could piston rod be clipping hole in cylinder end block, ie not quite straight ?

Long shot but maybe worth checking that this isn't connected to the cocking lever, cocking shoe or something in the trigger unit / block?

Does the gun have a piston sleeve?

seems you checked pretty much everything already - not a big surprise, I know you know what you are doing

3.0mm TP is a bit small for a full fat 80... I'd defo open it out to at least 3.2mm initially, as that should significantly improve things. Ultimately I'd be expecting 3.4-3.5mm to be the sweet spot.

PS ream, don't drill. a 1/8" reamer will be perfect for a start

Good point. A metal sleeve could cause a "springy/pingy " type of sound if not correctly fitting. And when I was thinking trigger unit.....maybe the pivot bushes or safety spring?

No but it has a Vortek PG4 kit in it. That kit as a thin steel outer guide at the trigger end. I have a more conventional ARH kit that I could try again. I tried it shortly a few years ago and I don't remember if it still made the noise. It was removed because the gun didn't make as much power as the Vortek. I'll tear it down and have a second look in there and put it back together with the ARH kit. Hopefully the noise will go away and I'll find the missing power. I'll see if I can get a better measurement of the TP. I thought that synthetic sealed Weihrauchs were 3.2mm.

    Be well all

I'll be back with the results later

Thanks for the offer. I appreciate it. I'm out of the woods with this thing. I shot it a bunch today. The noise didn't return. It's a much more enjoyable gun now. Besides losing the annoying ping noise, it cocks and shoots smoother. I couldn't check if the accuracy changed as the winds were strong, gusting and from random directions.

As long as the gun is accurate, I'd be ok if this gun stays shooting this way.

    Be well all.

Assuming the noise doesn't return I'd have to think the noise was from the Vortek steel outer guide resonance. I have to do some more testing with a scope on it.

    Thanks all for the help

personally I find 17-18 FP the sweet spot for these... accurate and easy to shoot. Much more and accuracy (or maybe the ability to achieve it) seems to suffer.

Hi JB..I'd go 19 ft lbs as the sweet spot. Anything more is a little too much. Slight off thread but on FAC power levels I remember shooting a Webley Venom 97 running at 16.8 ft lbs it was unreal..a mild nudge in the shoulder like a legal limit rifle..it was .22 but really nice at that power level.

This would be my guess for the other gentleman's R1. I've experienced the same noise more than once when the spring guide base wasn't large enough to center the guide. The guide would go off center and even a straight centered latch rod would clip the side of the trigger block opening.
