    nice, but shame about the stock plaque inletting...

    I have a 49a in k98k woodwork, same schmeisser rocking bolt action and mag. Love it.
    Always looking for any cheap, interesting, knackered "project" guns. Thanks, JB.

    That stock could easily be sorted, if it's at the right money come end of auction. Finding any air rifle from that era in minty condition will always be a challenge.

    I’m assuming he will have to come down but what can be done to make that stock better. Wood patch?

    depending on how deep it is, you could just take say 3mm off the entire side of the stock...

    As Shed Tuner says, just sand it down and use the dust to fill the holes. From enlarging the photo the area doesn't look too deep.

    I would leave it alone and just enjoy it. The GI that picked it up and sent or carried it back to the states obviously didn't want the German plaque on it and levered it off.
