Is there any tips on how to stop my shoulder going out when holdng unsupported?

I'm going to put adaptions in anyway as I've got a spinal injury but currently I shoot on my garden range with my back supported upright, right hand on the trigger and left on the foregrip and I keep finding after 20-40 shots my left shoulder gives out, doesn't seem to be related to Rifle weight either as it happens as much with the Daisy that weighs nothing as it does with something like my BSA or Webley, I'm also a big guy to boot.

Thanks in advance for any advice or tips.

    Sound Advice

    All good advice guys I'd add to that;

    1. Know the law relating not just to airgun shooting but also other laws for example trespass laws including armed trespass which is the charge for being on land which you dont have permission to be on with an airgun.

    2. Know your limits. In this case of the ground you use. Obviously on the range the issue of the shooting theatre is fairly obvious but in the field you MUST know where you can and cant go and what lands constitute the "permission givers" property. Dont shoot on a property until you have done a full recce of the ground preferably with the owner of the land in daylight and taking plenty of time. Firing a pellet from ground you have permission to shoot on in to ground you dont is also armed trespass despite never having set foot on that land.

    3. Your permission letter is a life saver. I always carry a signed copy of my permission letter and that way should anyone want to verify my story they can also in the past it has resulted in the land owner not being disturbed at 2am which would severely test your relationship with the land owner and maybe jeopardise a permission..

I know that this is an old thread but I just found it and it made for some good reading.

I'd like to add my own to the list.

There is no such thing as a "safety" on a gun. You are the safety.

Some basic stuff that can be taken for granted. Sometimes you need a good reminder like this!

    The OCD rule of shooting

The OCD rule of shooting: If you think a gun might be loaded, check it. If you're sure it's empty, check it!
By buying, selling, borrowing or otherwise taking or accepting any item(s) from or with me, you are confirming that you are over 18 years old and are not prohibited from owning, possessing, handling or using that item(s).

Hope this is the right place for this, and I'm sure the vast majority of posters here don't need to be told, but after seeing some truly shocking idiocy on youtube I think it's worth saying:

    1. Wild animals are not there for target practice.
    2. Never shoot anything that's not: a recognised health hazard (e.g. rats, feral pigeons); an agricultural pest (e.g. woodies, crows); known to be excellent with red wine (e.g. rabbits, woodies ).
    3. Small game only.
    4. If you're not killing consistently with one shot, stop hunting and go back to target practice until you improve.

Goes without saying, keeping your hand on the lever when cocking. If you didn't you won't be able to cock it will you. However, keeping your hand on the lever when loading is an even better idea in my opinion as it will stop or reduce the risk of the breach snapping shut with your finger inside it.

    Shooting Tips

    Safe Shooting
SuperMicks list is a must, but would like to add before you shoot you must survey the area your shooting, know the place or ground your on and make sure your back drop is safe.
Do this and always be vigilant and aware to make sure you and anything around you will be safe.
Follow the tips from SuperMicks post in relation to handling the gun and you will find you will relax and enjoy your sport.
    Happy shooting.
    Regards
    Tony
